Photography and Publication spreads to illustrate how combining art and the environment can be a form of therapy.
This project required working in a group to produce a re-imagined modern-day version of Stewart Brands 1968 ‘Whole Earth Catalog’. With the focus on ‘sustainability’ and ‘eco stewardship’. The project is a collection of helpful tools and methods which could shape people’s environments and livelihoods.
With my group focusing on mindfulness, motion, motivation, and movement. My contribution to the publication, was two double page spreads focusing on how using eco-art therapy has multiple benefits for the environment and ourselves.
Inspired by the Arts & Crafts movement, as with many of my projects I love to focus on using craft as a tool to design. Therefore, I use the process of making plant seed paper, as a way of motivating people to bring less harm to the planet, by using more ecological methods of producing materials. The physical movement, and motion of being connected with nature, together bringing a sense of mindfulness through eco-art therapy.
As well as using photography as my medium to capture this process, the work and information came together into two double spreads, not only providing information on eco-art therapy, it's benefits, and the example of how producing plant seed paper can not only benefit our environment, but the process of making it, and being at one with nature, can improve our livelihood.
